Diglipur, Nov 2: To offer an adventurous trail to visitors of the picturesque Ross and Smith Island at Diglipur in North Andaman, the District Administration of the region is currently exploring an alternate path for the tourist destination. The proposed path would offer an exciting travel to visitors through forests rich in flora and fauna, bird watching opportunity through a stretch of about 10 km.
For the new route, visitors will first have to reach Sagar Dweep Jetty by a boat and then travel in an open Eco-vehicle for about 6.5 kms to reach Eight Family village. Visitors will then have to travel through villages in the area for about 3.5 km amidst greenery, diverse species of birds and experience the village life in the area to reach Ross and Smith Island. According to information, the 3.5 km road stretch has already been surveyed by the Forest Department and plans are afoot to construct Nature Guidance Stops, Thatched Huts, E-Toilets, Camp Offices, Permit Offices, Watch Towers, Resting Benches and Beach Benches at different point along the route.
Moreover, construction of an Helipad at the location is in full swing. Besides, the administration has plans to educate the local population to construct huts using locally available materials without disturbing nature balance and maintain best hygiene standards to make the tourist destination more attractive for both domestic and international tourists.
