Port Blair, Oct 09: Smt. R. Menaka, IAS, Secretary (Animal Husbandry/Agriculture and Fisheries) accompanied by Dr.S.Shiv Kumar, Director (Animal Husbandry), Dr. G.S. Pandey, Director (Agriculture) and Shri. J. Chandra Sekhar, Director(Fisheries) undertook a tour of North and Middle Andaman from 03.10.2015 to 07.10.2015 to inspect the Institutions of the three line departments and to take stock of the functioning of the departments.
During the visit, the Secretary inspected all the Veterinary Institutions such as Veterinary Hospitals, Veterinary Dispensaries, Veterinary Sub Dispensaries and Departmental Farms of Animal Husbandry department and the institutions of Agriculture department such as Zonal office, Sub depots, Multipurpose Farm, Agriculture farms, seed multiplication farm, Rural Knowledge centre etc. and Fish landing centres, Cold storage, Ice plants, Fisheries stations, Zonal office etc. of the Fisheries department from Baratang in Middle Andaman to Diglipur in North Andaman. The Secretary took stock of the functioning of the institutions and issued necessary instructions for improving the functioning of these institutions for better delivery of services to the farmers, fisherman and common people.
The Secretary (AH/Agri./Fisheries) and the three Directors also held meetings with the PRIs and farmers at Baratang, Kadamtala and Uttara to discuss the problems of farmers and with fishermen at Nimbutala and Diglipur to discuss the problems related to Fisheries and addressed them.
During the visit, the Secretary (AH/Agri./Fisheries) and the team of Officers also undertook extensive field visit and interacted with the farmers and also taken note of the issues faced by the farmers for taking further action.
