Port Blair, Oct 07: As part of weeklong Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations, a Seminar was organized by the Department of Political Science, JNRM, Port Blair on 06th of October, 2015. The topic of the seminar was Gandhiji’s Ideals on Cleanliness. Dr. (Mrs) Poonam Arora, MP’s nominee for Swachh Bharat Mission in A&N Islands was the Chief Guest and Mrs. Anuradha Lall, Chairperson ‘Clean City’ was the Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest expressed the view that Swachhata should be made a way of life. She recollected her visit to the Girls Hostel earlier and appreciated the way the girls were maintaining hygiene. Mrs. Anuradha Lall, appealed the students to involve themselves in the efforts to realize the dream of the Father of the Nation to have a Clean India.
Earlier, Principal, JNRM Dr. N. Francis Xavier welcomed the gathering and emphasized the need to have clean surroundings. He also narrated how JNRM was choosing a different theme each year for the Gandhi Jayanti seminar. He also thanked the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour for their generous donations to the Girls Hostel and the prize winners in the Seminar and the painting and elocution competition.
Dr. S.S. Sreekumar, Head, Department of Political Science who coordinated the whole programme spoke on the occasion on the relevance of holding the Seminar and to create awareness among the people, especially in the rural areas. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. S. K. Biswas, Associate Professor, Dept. of Political Science. The programme was compeered by Dr. N. Lakshmi, Assistant Professor, Hindi. The Film “Gandhi” was also screened after the seminar.
