Port Blair, Sept 30: Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year on 2nd October to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation. As part of the observance of Gandhi Jayanti, floral tributes will be paid by dignitaries and prayer by teachers and school students from 8.15 am to 8.20 am at Gandhi Statue, Gandhi Park. Floral tributes will also be paid at Gandhi Statue, Mohanpura at 8.20 am, Ramdhun and prayers by representatives of different groups and Teachers/Students of Education Departments from 8.30 am to 9.05 am and Spinning of Khadi can be witnessed from 9.06 am to 9.08 am.
All the Govt. Departments, Institutions, Autonomous bodies, Corporation, Panchayat Pradhans, Voluntary organisations and villagers are requested to create community assets by Shramdaan and conduct special drive for cleanliness during the week.
The general public have been requested to refrain from slaughtering of animals, killing of birds, fish catching and consuming liquor on this auspicious day.
The 2nd October, 2015 will be observed as “Dry Day” in homage to the Father of the Nation.
