Billyground, Sept 20: In a major lead for the Police to unearth the racket involved in trade of spurious liquor in Middle Andaman, a 28 year old resident of Prafulla Nagar, Basantipur near Billyground was nabbed red-handed with country liquor on Saturday.
Baliram, the accused, was trying to transport huge quantity of the illicit liquor to an unknown location when local intercepted him and handed him over to the Billyground Police.
According to sources, villagers of Prafulla Nagar noticed an youth carrying illicit liquor in the wee hours of Saturday. Some villagers chased him to a distance and after confirming that the bottles contained country liquor, they caught him red-handed.
The accused tried to flee from the spot and even traded blows to some villagers. However, a Prafulla Nagar youth identified as Mukul Bepari gagged him with a towel and informed the Police.
The cops arrived at the spot at about 12.45 am and arrested the accused under relevant sections of the law. According to latest, the Police is interrogating the accused to ascertain the source of the spurious liquor.
The administration should strictly deal with this case so that Billigound being a buffer zone could not have such instance of spurious liquor sales the next time and the culprit must be punished in accordance with the strict rules of the law.
