Port Blair, Sept 20: Headquarters Coast Guard Region (A&N)conducted International Coastal Cleanup drivein the A&N Islands on 19 Sep 15. The aim of the exercise was to create awareness towards keeping our coasts clean as part of United Nation Environment Programme (UNEP).
The major event was held at Carbyns Cove beach Port Blair. Altogether 650 persons including Coast Guard personnel, members of Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (A&N), School Childrenand NCC junior wing cadets from Nirmala High School, Modern High School, Govt. School Junglighat, Kendriya Vidyalaya -2 , NCC Senior wing Cadets from JNRM College, representatives of NGOs and Corporate Houses enthusiastically participated in the Coast cleanup drive at Port Blair .
The event was simultaneously held at Diglipur & Mayabunder in the Northern Group and at Kamorta & Campbell bay in the Southern Group of Islands, large number of volunteers including officials of civil administration and forest department wholeheartedly participated for the environmental cause in all part of the Islands and made the event a grand success.
Mementos and Certificates were presented to all participants. The trash collected during the drive was disposed off with the support of the PBMC, said PRO CG (A&N).
