Port Blair, Sept 10: The Andaman and Nicobar Police has embarked on stringent measures to curb the growing menace of cyber crimes in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Speaking to Channel One News recently, the Director General of Police, Mr Rajesh Malik said that Banker of these islands have been asked to generate awareness from awareness among customers and public about the modus operandi online fraudsters to solve the escalating number of crimes related to ATMs and online scams.
Besides implementing modern expertise, the Police will go all out to track the phone numbers of fraudsters who call on the mobile numbers of gullible customers, if cases are reported, assured the DGP/ Awareness holds the key to prevent cyber crimes as online and ATM frauds involves rackets having a fair degree of expertise in software skills.
People should not respond to unidentified phone calls or emails and should not disclose confidential details like Account details, ATM Card numbers, PIN numbers to anonymous persons over phone or email, said the DGP.
More stress on information dissemination and use of visual aids, information leaflets should be ensured to sensitize people to prevent them from falling prey to cyber cheats. Bankers have also been asked to install CCTV Cameras in their branches and ensure footage monitoring on a daily basis, he said urging the support of the local media in creating awareness through their medium to eliminate cyber crimes from these islands.
