Port Blair, Sept 04: A Training Programme for Police Personnel to be deployed on election duty has been organized for two days at Police Training School, Prothrapur to brief them about their role during elections. On the completion of the training, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman and Superintendent of Police, Training, addressed the Police Personnel and appealed them to strictly enforce the Model Code of Conduct and to perform their duties without any fear or favour.
The Director, Panchayat & Municipal Elections reviewed the security arrangements in sensitive areas, identified by the Police Department. As many as 77 Polling stations situated at 27 locations have been identified as sensitive areas and in these areas, additional forces including the special contingents of Indian Reserve Battalion shall be deployed.
Inspection of distribution & counting center carried out. Separate arrangements for counting of votes for Municipal Council & Panchayats is being planned. The arrangements for counting of the votes will be finalized keeping in mind the speedy counting and convenience of the Returning Officers & Polling Agents of the Candidates as well.
It is once again informed to all the Presiding Officers/Polling Personnel who have not attended the first round of training to attend the same in the second round on 6th September 2015 without fail.
The personnel posted on election duty are informed that special arrangements have been made for their convenience to cast vote by postal ballot. They are requested to collect their postal ballots on 11 & 12th September from their concerned Returning Officers for casting of their votes.
The teams constituted for preventing the violation of Modal Code of Conduct have been keeping constant vigil. Three contesting candidates have been show caused on the complaints received regarding violation of Model Code of Conduct. Total 1008 (One Thousand Eight) & 206 (Two Hundred Six) number of defacements have been removed from Public & Private property in South Andaman District & North Andaman District respectively. The general public and others are appealed to report any case of violation of Modal Code of Conduct to Election Cell on 03192-238881 and 03192-240127.
