Port Blair, Sept 03: A meeting was held by A&N Police with the Courier and Shipping agents of Port Blair area on 01/09/15 in the conference hall of SP(D)SA office by Shri Shibesh Singh, IPS, SP/SA and Shri Atul Kumar Thakur, IPS, Superintendent of Police (CID). This meeting was called to take stock of the checks and precautions on the cargo/parcels being brought from mainland as well as those dispatched from these islands. All present were also briefed for keeping proper ID proof and other details of the consignee and consigners and undertake proper checks of the cargo. They were also advised to get police verification of their employees, install scanner machines and CCTV cameras at their respective offices /godowns. They were suggested to take up this issue with their associations and putforth the proceedings of this meeting to their counterparts at mainland for strict compliance.
They were directed to inform Police about any unclaimed courier/parcels lying in their offices and also informed that if any contraband items were recovered and during the course of investigation it was revealed that such items were transported/ brought by the Courier /shipping agent without adopting precautionary measures, then stringent action will be taken against those persons who had aided in the transportation of the said item. At last they were requested to co-operate with the police to ensure that adequate precautionary measures are taken against any attempts to sabotage the safety and security of these Islands.
