Monetary compensation in lieu of submerged land
Port Blair, Apr 20: In order to disburse monetary compensation in lieu of submerged land to the tsunami affected farmers, Lt Gen (Rtd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM, Lt. Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands had personally met Shri P. Chidambaram, Union Home Minister and urged upon him to convey the sanction of the Govt. of India as early as possible. Before that, the Lt. Governor had written to the Union Home Minister on 23 December 2011, 29 February 2012 and 12 April 2012 for immediate issuance of the sanction to disburse the money in lieu of submerged land to the affected farmers. The Lt. Governor has asked the Chief Secretary, Shri Shakti Sinha to meet officials at all levels in the Ministry of Finance for early clearance of the proposal to disburse financial compensation to the farmers.
However, some reports are emerging that some persons are deliberately misleading the public that funds earmarked for disbursement of compensation have been diverted by the administration for some other purpose. This is totally false and tantamounts to deliberately creating confusion, chaos and unrest amongst public knowing well that the sanction to disburse the financial compensation is expected from the Govt. of India shortly. The affected people are informed that they should not get swayed by such false rumours by any person.
