Port Blair, Aug 20: A naval Dornier Aircraft of Andaman and Nicobar Command today evacuated a ‘critical’ pregnant lady from Campbell bay Island, India’s southernmost landmass.
According to report the pregnant lady Smt Dilamma, 25 years, wife of Mr Rama Rao resident of Campbell Bay, developed some complications last night but due to limitation of flying helicopters at night and absence of night landing facilities at Campbell Bay’s naval airbase, the lady could not be evacuated at night.
The patient was suffering from a medical condition termed as eclampsia. The full term pregnant lady started having convulsions on 19 Aug 15 which required specialist medical attention.
Finally when the Health Department contacted the Disaster Management department, after which a plan was chocked out with the help of ANC and MRCC a naval Dornier aircraft was sent to evacuate the patient from Port Blair at first sunlight.
Finally by 7.30 AM the patient reached Port Blair and she was immediately shifted to Port Blair’s G B Pant hospital for urgent medical care.
According to doctors the complication was because of very high pressure of the patient.
“We kept the patient under sedation to easy her pain yesterday night. At Port Blair the patient was handed over to the Gynecologist. Though the patient is stable now we could not save the child as due to high blood pressure she was having convulsions. Had the patient reached G B Pant yesterday we could have saved both baby and the mother,” Dr. Abhijit Ray the Deputy Director of Health Services told Channel One News today.
