Port Blair, Apr 18: The first ever Beach festival to be organised in Andaman & Nicobar Islands at Corbyn’s Cove Beach is all set to draw interest from sports enthusiasts of the Islands apart from tourists. If responses from general public are any indication, the matches including Beach Kabaddi, Beach Volley Ball, and Tug-of-War which are going to be organised as a part of the three-day festival are going to be of tight competitions.
As many as 12 teams have already been registered for competitions in Beach Volley ball and 9 teams for Beach Kabaddi and 6 teams for Tug of War. There are responses even for competitions in coconut climbing. The fixture for competitions has already been drawn and is available with the Asst. Director (Sports) Sri Kantha Rao, at Netaji Stadium. All Managers of the teams are requested to contact him for further briefing.
The musical programme for the festival is also finalised. On the day of inauguration of the Festival on 20.4.2012 at 1700 hrs, Indradhanush Orchestra will perform. On 21st Friends Cultural Society and on 22nd M/s. Avinash & team are expected to enthral the gathering.
The PBMC has provided all amenities in the famous Corbyn’s Cove beach for the gathering. The beach is already sporting a new look. The Beach furniture has been refurbished. Six food kiosks are in place to serve Sea foods and other delicacies.
The State Transport Service has already announced special bus services from Bus terminus to Corbyn’s Cove to facilitate public to witness the festival in all three days apart from free Coach services by FORTO.
