Port Blair, July 27: The 2nd Inter Zonal State Level School Football Knockout Tournament concluded today at the Netaji Stadium. Shri.Rajiv Yaduvanshi, IAS, Commissioner cum Secretary (Education) was the Chief Guest at the valedictory function. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest expressed his happiness over the zeal and enthusiasm displayed by all the participants and hoped that in future these young budding talents will shine at the at the National and International levels.
The Chief Guest reiterated that the young players must play the game with sportsman spirit and also said that participation is more important than winning. Congratulating Govt. Sr.Sec.School Malacca, the winner of the under 17 category championship, he asked the players to pay attention to their diet, so that they can boost up their stamina.
He informed that very soon a coach will be deputed to Car Nicobar to make the coaching available there itself. Shri Rajiv Yaduvanshi congratulated all the Physical Education Teachers, organizers and officials for their dedication and devotion for making this mega event a grand success.
The final match of the under 17 category played today evening, was a very exciting match. It was a very close contest which was won by the Malacca team by 3-1. Sansani the star player scored all the goals. A colourful cultural program performed by the students of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School during the interval was enjoyed by all.
Earlier welcoming the guests the Secretary Education Smti Sakshi Mittal informed that the 27 teams from the 9 Educational zones took part in this Championship. Special arrangements were made for the comfortable stay of the visiting players, She said.
Proposing vote of thanks the Deputy Director Shri Dharmendra kumar hoped that this time we expect better performance from the Islands’ team at the National Level Subroto Cup Championship.
Earlier in the morning two final matches were played in the JNRM Football Ground .In the first final for U-14 (Boys) GSSS Champin defeated GMSSS Hutbay by 2-0 goals. Shri. Dharmendra Kuamr, DDE (Admn/HoO) was the chief Guest on the occasion and gave away medals to the winner and runners up team.
In the second final played match played between GSSS Oralkatcha and GSS Parangara for U-17 (Girls ) was won by GSSS Oralkatcha by a solitary goal.
The closing ceremony was attended by senior officers of the Education Department, Sports Lovers, parents and children.
