Port Blair, June 24: Drawing the attention of the State HRD Minister Prof. Ramashankar Katheria, the PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has submitted a request for considering a Central University in AN Islands. Kuldeep has submitted that total 455 (330 are managed by AN Admn) schools spread over 37 islands are educating the students of these islands.
Besides these schools three Degree Colleges, two at Port Blair and another at Mayabunder are also there for the students of these islands and a community college is also being established in South Andaman which will commence in July, 2015. Apart from these, Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology, ITI, Tagore Govt College of Education are also there to offer various courses in Engineering etc and B.Ed courses.
Added to these, establishment of Medical College has also been approved and the first year MBBS course will commence from August, 2015. Submitting the brief of most flourishing education sector of these islands, Kuldeep has stated that if the HRD Ministry approves establishing of a Central University in these islands, it will enhance the education sector and be very much beneficial for the islanders.
PCC chief has stated that the Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University to which all the colleges of these islands are affiliated has already recommended to the Ministry of HRD of such establishment of an exclusive University for these islands.
Kuldeep has also stated that establishing of a central University will allow the students to choose their choice of subjects for further studies and submit their thesis etc for getting PhD by staying at Andaman itself while employment problems will also be solved to a certain good limit.
Students from foreign countries, especially from South East Countries may seek and get admission in the University since international airliners are likely to operate in these islands very soon, which will boost the economy. Kuldeep has also requested the Lt Governor to take up the matter with the HRD Ministry and also with the Ministry of Home Affairs for the welfare of the students and development of the islands.
