Port Blair, June 08: The Lt. Governor has expressed his deep concern over the fall in the percentage of students who passed or cleared the CBSE class X and XII Board examinations this year, in the government schools. He has also expressed his disappointment over the fall in overall academic standards in government schools.
He has issued directions to Secretary (Education) to come up with a Plan of Action within the next 10 days wherein the necessary steps to be taken immediately, will be listed out. Besides, the Plan will also call for accountability of both Heads of the School and the teachers. Responsibility will be fixed on them for poor academic performances. The Plan will also seek to improve the functioning of the Education Directorate. Its Education Officers will now be responsible for regular inspections and monitoring of academic performances and will be held accountable.
Once the Plan of Action in this regard has been drawn up and approved, it will be released to the media.
