Port Blair, Apt 28: The Kadamtala Panchyat of the Islands has been felicitated with the prestigious Rashtreeya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskaar. The Award has been given to the Pradhan Shri Sampad Kumar Roy by the Minister of state for Panchayati Raj Shri Nihal Chand at a function held in New Delhi on the National Panchayati Raj Diwas recently. Kadamtala is one of the 16 recipients from the country. The Pradhan Shri Sampad Kumar Roy got the opportunity of expressing his views also at the function.
In his address Shri Sampad said that Andaman Nicobar Islands presents a model to the Nation so far coordination among the three tiers of the Panchayati Raj system in the Islands is concerned. He invited the PRIs from the other states to visit islands.
The delegation from Islands included the Secretary N.K.Sharma and Extension Officer Bijay Kumar Das. The Panchayat has been chosen for the award in recognition to the best efforts made by the Panchayat to carry out the development works, and implementing Govt. Schemes for the welfare of the people. Talking to media after returning from New Delhi the proud Pradhan said that he is grateful to the then Deputy Commissioner Shri Sanjay Kumar, who had extended all possible support for the development of the Panchayat. The idea of setting horticulture farms through MGNREGA has been realized successfully in the Panchayat.
Record number of rural roads have been constructed in the Panchayat in the last 4 years to connect the remote localities. Kadamtala is the only Panchayat which has constructed a concrete building for Anganwadi Kendra, through MGNREGA, he informed.
