Port Blair, Apr 22: The Directorate of Disaster Management, A & N Administration has conducted an awareness-cum-sensitization programme on Disaster Management skills-Precautions for Travel, Tour Operators & Hoteliers for trainees under travel & tourism of Trade Wings Institute of Management, Middle Point, Port Blair at the Conference Hall of Directorate of Disaster Management on 22nd April 2015.
Earlier, Shri Ashok Sharma, Director, DM welcomed the participants of a bunch of 60 and the Center Director of Trade Wings Institute of Management has briefed about various concepts of Disaster Management, the vulnerability of this enigmatic Islands and how important to learn the skills of safety at individual level apprised.
Shri T.K.S Ajayan, Assistant Director (Ops), DM has made a power point presentation along with animated slides & movies on various Disasters & also explained in detail on Do’s and Dont’s during any crisis. He further explained that, Andaman & Nicobar Islands are highly susceptible to disasters of varied intensities, though we cannot prevent these natural phenomenon (disasters) to happen but definitely with a holistic and a meticulous approach & plan we could greatly reduce the impact. Various functions of State Control Room like dissemination of information etc. discussed threadbare.
Shri Deen Mohammed, Information Officer, Directorate of Disaster Management has elaborated on Emergency Communication and Early Warning System and also spoke in detail about various communication elements that render an institution “well prepared” to manage events during a disaster. Making participants learn through plays and games, it was ensured that not communicating effectively can make a bad situation worse. While detailing communication it was told that gathering of information through reliable source is important and the response teams must disseminate only pertinent information.
At the end the participants raised many questions which were cleared by the officials of Disaster Management. The Center Director & Participants of IATA, conveyed their gratitude for getting acquainted with preparedness and mitigation methods of Disaster Management, along with life saving skills which could be handy to combat any disasters.
