Port Blair, Apt 21: The Election Commission for the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands had published its proposals for delimitation of wards of Port Blair Municipal Council and invited suggestions and objections thereto vide Notification No. 5-29/EC/A&N/2015 dated 05-03-2015.
The Commission has till now received twenty five suggestions / objections in this regard by the specified date, i.e., 23-03-2015. Rule 6 (1) (b) of Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Municipal) (Preparation of Electoral Rolls and Conduct of Elections) Rules, 1995, provides that the Commission shall consider all objections and suggestions received by it by the date so specified, giving, if the Commission considers it necessary, an opportunity to a person concerned, who has given the objection / suggestion, for being heard.
Therefore, in the interest of natural justice, the Commission will hold a meeting on 22-04-2015 at 09.30 am in Dr B R Ambedkar Auditorium, (DBRAIT, Pahargaon) Port Blair to dispose of the claims or suggestions/ objections received in this regard.
“Should the persons, who have given their objections/ suggestions on the aforesaid proposal for delimitation wish to appear before the Commission, they should do so in person at the venue on the appointed date and time. Further in exercise of the powers conferred on it by rule 5 (3) of the said rules the Election Commission shall hold a public draw of lots on 24-04-2015 at 04.00 pm in Dr B R Ambedkar Auditorium, (DBRAIT, Pahargaon) Port Blair to allocate the seats reserved for women, vide notification No 3-195/2013 UD dated 02-01-2015 for the forthcoming General Elections to PBMC. Any person or political party desirous to attend is welcome,” a release issued by Mr. Rajiv Kumar, Secretary to EC said here today.
