Port Blair, Apr 07: Like every year “World Health Day” was observed on 7th February 2015 in Andaman & Nicobar Islands together with the rest of the World with objective to raise awareness on the importance of Food Safety in order to protect the citizens from various food related hazards.
A function was held at Panchayat Samiti Hall Ferrargunj, South Andaman in which Dr.Sipra Paul, Director of Health Services was the Chief Guest while Shri. Mohd. Shafique, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Ferrargunj, Guest of honour. The function was attended by Dr. Avijit Roy, Deputy Director (H & HE), Dr.Ramya, Medical Officer Incharge, PHC Ferrargunj, Dr.Shabnam, Medical Officer (Homeo), PHC Ferrargunj, Shri. D.B. Nag, Health Education Officer & Para Medical Staff, Anganwadi Workers, ASHAs and villagers of FerrargunjTehshil.
Dr.Avijit Roy, Deputy Director (H & HE) in his key note address he has highlighted the importance of food safety and appeal general public and food handlers to maintain personal hygiene and cleanliness while preparing food items/ food handling and avoiding adulteration at various level.
Dr.Ramya, Medical Officer Incharge, PHC Ferrargunj, in her address talked in detail about Food Borne Diseases & Global Burden through power point presentation.
Shri. Mohd. Shafique, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Ferrargunj, in his address requested all participants to spread the messages of food safety measures in the community and create awareness to adopt food safety measures while preparing food and food handling.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Dr.Sipra Paul, Director of Health Services, appealed the participants to adopt food safety measures and personal hygiene while preparing food and food handling to lead a healthy life.
Earlier, Dr.Shabnam, Medical Officer (Homeo) PHC Ferrargunj, welcomed the gatherings. The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Smti. Shahida Bibi, Health Educator.
