Port Blair, Apr 06: The two-day Annual Conference of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, began at Kerala Samajam Hall, Port Blair today the 04th April, 2015 at 4.30 p.m. Inaugurating the Conference, Shri Vrighu Bhattacharjee, Finance Secretary of the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees and Workers’, New Delhi, explained in detail about the 10 point charter of demands put in front of the government by the JCM Staff Side, New Delhi and threw light on the expectations of the employees regarding the 7th Central Pay Commission and the proposals made by the Staff side of the JCM, National Council before the 7th CPC.
He said that the NDA government is making all out efforts to privatise public sector undertakings and govt. departments in a phased manner and called upon the govt. employees of these islands and strengthen the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association and become part of the fight against the anti-working class and retrograde policies of the central government. Addressing the Conference, Smt Geeta Bhattacharjee, Asst. Convener, National Women’s Committee of the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees and Workers’ enlightened the gathering on various significant issues related to central govt. employees in general and women employees in particular.
She expressed concern over the increasing attack on the women all over the country. Explaining in brief the various demands placed by the JCM Staff Side before the Pay Commission in regard to the wage revision and other benefits of the Central govt. employees, Smt Geeta Bhattacharjee asked the the women govt. employees working in these islands to come forward in the fight against the anti-employee policies of the government.
Earlier, Shri H.L.Prasad, President of the Association hoisted the Association’s flag and the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and others paid tributes to the martyrs at the specially erected Martyrs Memorial Column at the Kerala Samajam premises. Shri Shahnawaz Khan, Chairman, Reception Committee of the Annual Conference while welcoming the gathering remembered the sacrifices made by the leaders of the Association particularly Late PKS Prasad under whose leadership a number of demands of govt. employees working in these islands were achieved.
Shri K.G.Das, Former General Secretary of the Association, Shri B.Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU, A & N State Committee and Shri S.P.Kalairajan, Circle Secretary, BSNL Employees Union also addressed the gathering. A large number of govt. employees and workers and former leaders of the Assocaition attended the inaugural session. Shri R.Ranjan, Vice Chairman, Reception Committee proposed the vote of thanks.
Earlier on the day, on their arrival at Port Blair airport, Shri Vrighu Bhattacharjee and Smt Geeta Bhattacharjee were given a warm reception by leaders and members of the Association led by Shri H.L.Prasad, President and Shri T.S.Sreekumar, General Secretary.
