Port Blair, Mar 09: ICAR-CIARI in collaboration with KVK, Nicobar and AH&VS, Car Nicobar has brought in transitional phase in Rural poultry farming by establishing “Mini Incubators”and released foldersin Nicobari language’’ on ‘’Operation of Mini Incubators for the first of its kind to the tribal farming community of Car Nicobar to improve the population of Nicobari fowl with a goal of conserving these native indigenous poultry germplasm. 4 days training programme cum demonstration was organized on‘’Operation of Mini Incubator’’at Car Nicobar from 3rdto 6thMarch 2015 under Tribal Sub Plan.A total of 25Nicobari farmers from Tamaloo, Chukchuka, Kinmai and Big lapathy villages underwent the capacity building programme. Shri. Pal Benjamin, Captain, Tamaloo village was the chief guest of the programme and he motivated the tribal farmers to join hands to conserve the native Nicobari fowl utilizing these incubators. Dr.Pankaj Biswas SVO, AH&VS Car Nicobar was the guest of honor. He also narrated the importance of Nicobari fowl and its conservation in these Islands.
Dr.T.Sujathatraining coordinator, in her address, emphasized that the Nicobari fowls are about to be extinct and are in urgent need of propagation and conservation at community level. During 4 days programme, she briefed about the importance and significant role of the machine in conservation of Nicobari fowl. She also narrated the nutritional management using locally available feed ingredients and suggested the simplified balanced feed formulae for rural poultry. Dr.Zachariah George, SMS, Car Nicobar explained the importance and role of incubator in the conservation of Nicobari fowl. He described the management on breeding fowl and health of rural poultry.
Demonstration was done on operation ofincubator. During valediction, folders in Nicobari language on operation of Mini incubators and Rural poultry Farming were released. Shri.Martin Luthur, Secretary, Tribal Council, Shri. Benjamin Paul, 1st headman, Tamaloo and Shri.Kindness Israel, 1st headman, Kinmai appreciated the commendable work done by ICAR-CIARI for providing knowledge in their mother tongue.
The Deputy Commissioner Mrs.Sakshi Mittal, Car Nicobar also appreciated the efforts to write the technologies in the language of tribal farming community for their better understanding.
