Port Blair, Feb 26: Central trade unions in the country jointly organized Satyagraha (Court Arrest) today to protest against the policies of deregulation/disinvestment/privatization and denationalization, raising FDI camp in strategic sectors of industries and services, attack on workers’ rights. In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in support of the Satyagraha, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions organized a Mass Dharna at Tiranga Park, Aberdeen Bazar, Port Blair from 9 am. to 5 p.m. which was followed by a Public Meeting at the same venue. The Mass Dharna was inaugurated by Shri HL Prasad, Acting President of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association.
Addressing the public meeting, Shri B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU, A & N State Committee criticized the BJP for the anti-working class policies being pursued by the central government. Shri TS Sreekumar, General Secretary of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association while speaking on the occasion explained in detail the adverse consequences of the wrong policies of the government on the central government employees and said that the government has refused to accept many of the demands of the central government employees’ organizations like merger of DA, grant of Interim Relief, restoration of Pension to all, etc. Shri HL Prasad, Acting President of the Association in his address called upon the government employees and workers to remain united to continue to fight against the anti-working class policies of the government. Shri GP Mondal, Organising Secretary of the Association also addressed the public meeting.
A large number of workers and employees participated in the Mass Dharna and also attended the public meeting in the evening.
