Port Blair, Apr 09: A day-long orientation workshop for the news casters on the topic ‘electronic media & news presentation’ was held at the seminar room of the JNRM here today. Organized by the Regional News Unit, All India Radio Port Blair, the workshop was inaugurated by the Principal, JNRM, Dr. Iqbal Ahmed as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Dr. Ahmed enlightened about the pivotal role being played by the media in educating and providing information to the masses of latest developments taking place in and around. In the era of electronic communication, the importance of news has grown manifold; he said adding that one should refrain from preparing fabricated news stories which might send wrong messages to the society. He urged for broadcasting news which benefits the society and the people at large besides propagating good messages to the mankind.
Later, the chief guest also distributed the participation certificates to the participant newscasters during the concluding session of the workshop.
In his address on the occasion, the guest of honour, the Director (E), AIR, Mr. C. Mookan said that Pradeshik Samachar broadcast through AIR has taken the centre stage among all the programes. He also gave detailed information about the new facilities to be added in the Regional News Unit in particular and the up gradation of AIR studios in general.
The first technical session was chaired by Mr. M.H Khan, former Director, AIR. Speaking as the first speaker, Dr. JD Singh, Principal TGCE dwelt on the topic ‘importance of regional news and its evaluation’.
Mr. A. Dhanashekaran, Corespondent, AIR, through a power point presentation enlightened the gathering about the role and functioning of broadcasting media-a vision for AIR News.
Dr. R.N Rath, HOD Political Science, JNRM, spoke on the topic ‘role and relevance of electronic media in the islands’. Describing AIR as the media of the masses, he underlined the need for increasing AIR’s reach by strengthening the infrastructure while Mr. O.N Jaiswal, Editor, Echo of India urged upon newscasters to focus on the issues and not individuals while preparing news.
The second session was chaired by Dr. RN Rath in which the first speaker Mr. MH Khan, former Director, AIR spoke on the topic ‘importance & values of News based program of AIR’. He also shared his experience as the Director AIR while Mr. Sanjib Kumar Roy Correspondent, UNI enlightened about reporting and news presentation for electronic media and news agencies.
Presenting the review report of the workshop, Dr. Vyas Mani Tripathi, Associate Professor, JNRM said that the workshop pondered over various facets of news making and presentation. He also guided the participants about how to minimize the grammatical errors while drafting News. The News caster participants also shared their views about the workshop.
Earlier, the Deputy Director (News), Mr. Durgvijay Singh Deep welcomed the gathering and informed about the objective of the workshop.
