Port Blair, Jan 16: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament in a letter addressed to the Minister of Tribal Affairs, Mr. Jual Oram, dated 12/01/2015 has raised the issue for inclusion of Chottanagpuri Adhivasi viz. Uraons, Mundas, Kharias etc. in the list of Schedule Tribes of UT of A & N Islands.
In his letter, Mr. Ray further explained that the Chottanagpuri Adhivasi popularly known as Ranchi Community who are STs of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chatishgarh, Madhya Pradesh etc. were brought in the British regime and settled due to employment, agriculture and for other socio-economic development of this Islands.
Therefore, these communities have completely up rooted from their native places and mainland and permanently settled in A & N Islands.
So, it is their legitimate and genuine demands for inclusion of them in the list of ST of A & N Islands, the MP wrote and requested the Tribal Affairs Minister to intervene in the matter and for considering the legitimate demand for inclusion of these communities in the list of ST of A&N Islands, a communication from the MP Bhawan said here today.
