Port Blair, Dec 23: The Government of India has been implementing a scheme called Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) with the objectives to generate employment opportunities in rural as well as urban areas through setting up of new self-employment ventures / projects/ micro enterprises. Besdies, the objective is also to brign together widely dispersed traditional artisans/rural and urban unemployed youth and give them self-employment opportunities to the extent possible at their place.
The purpose of the Scheme is for setting up of eligible viable activities under Prime Minster Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) scheme. The Nature of credit facility of the scheme is Term Loan & Cash Credit facility.
Any individual, above 18 years of age are eligible under the scheme, there will be no income ceiling of assistance for setting up projects under PMEGP, for setting
Up of project costing above Rs.10 lakh in the manufacturing sector and above Rs.5 lakh in the service sector, the beneficiaries should possess at least VIII standard pass educational qualification. Assistant under the Schemes is available only for new projects sanctioned specifically under the PMEGP.
The beneficiaries contribution in the project coast are 10% for the General category and 5% for the special category including ST, OBC, Women, Ex-servicemen, Physically handicapped etc. the rates of subsidy of the project caost are 15% for the general category and 25% for the special category in urban area. Whereas 25% for the general category and 35% for the special category in Rural area.
The maximum cost of the project/unit admissible under manufacturing sectors is Rs. 25 lakh, service sector is Rs.10 lakh and under business/trading sector is Rs.02 lakh. Implementing Branches of the Projects are all the Nationalized Banks of the UT & ASNCB
The District Industries Centre, Udyog Parisar, Middle Point, Port Blair, South Andaman is one of the nodal implementation agency for PMEGP scheme in urban area of entire Municipality and in Rural areas of Neil, Havelock, Little Andaman Nancowry Group of Islands.
All the interested unemployed persons who intends to set up their self employment venture are advised to collect the PMEGP application form from the office and submit the same at the earliest along with required document for consideration.
