Port Blair, Dec 23: In yet another ATM fraud case, Mr. Madhav Rao, working as a DRM in Port Blair Municipal Council lost Rs. 3,500 from his SBI Account. According to details available here, Mr. Rao received a call from mobile number 08521466505, this morning.
The person on the other side identified himself as Sanjay Kumar of SBI, Port Blair Brach. He said he is calling for counter number 4 of main branch.
The caller informed Mr. Rao that his ATM card has been blocked. Then he asked 16 digit ATM number and also account number to unblock the card, which clueless Mr. Rao provided without any delay. Later the caller provided new ATM pin to Mr. Rao and asked his old pin (which was still valid).
Within minutes all the money in his account, Rs. 3,500, was withdrawn from his account. No one is responding from the caller’s number ever since.
This is yet another case where due to carelessness islander fell victim of cyber criminals. Surprisingly in most of the cases the SBI customers are being targeted by such criminal, which shows that somehow the account details of SBI has been leaked to these criminals. A thorough inquiry by CID will certainly bring out the truth.
