Billyground, Dec 11: A seminar on the topic of “Effects and problems of alcoholism in North & Middle Andaman: Implications for designing anti alcoholism policy” was held in the Mahatma Gandhi.Government.College, Mayabunder on 11.12.2014 in the college conference room. Mr G.L.Meena IAS, Secretary cum Director (Transport), A & N Admiistration and deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The seminar was part of the above mentioned project sponsored by North & Middle Andaman District Administration. Besides this, other two projects for the college “Waste Management Need Of The Hour” sponsored by North & Middle Andaman District Administration and “Tourism Prospects In North And
Middle Andaman” sponsored by the Department of Tourism, A & N Administration. Dr. R.N.Rath, Principal and Principal investigator of the project in his key note described the project as the first of its kind and the project report will be very much beneficial for planning policy formation of anti alcoholism policy and de-addiction camps.
Mr G.L.Meena, IAS while addressing a speech praised the M.G.Govt. College for doing notable works in the field of these projects which will be definitely beneficial for Administration. He emphasized upon the fact that realistic survey should be met at grass root level to depict the true suggestions for any changes of the rampage alcoholism in North & Middle Andaman in particular and A & N Islands in general. He also gave different examples of different states by which excess case of alcoholism has been reduced in recent years for which there are absolute requirements of awareness camps, moral education, activities by NGOs and other organizations for reduction of liquor limitation, statutory warnings, special efforts by PRIs etc.
In the technical session of the seminar there were deliberations and discussions by the participants in which Dr. Ramakrishna briefed in a systematic way to control alcoholism. He narrated a few of his personal and family experiences and also the socio environmental issues for this cause.
The other participants in the seminar were Smti. Meena Kumari PRI Member, Shri K.Selvakumar Resource person MGGC, Dr. Makik Mali Associate Professor MGGC, Smti Nambiamma, Smti. Latha, Smti Anna Hemron of GMS, Rampur, Shri B.S.Meera Shetty, Assistant Professor MGGC in his report of the briefed the entire proceedings with some suggestions. Earlier Shri B.B.Mondal, Assistant Professor, MGGC and investigator of the project welcomed the guests and Shri Pratap Chakraborty, Resource Person and Co-investigator of the Project proposed the vote of thanks.
