Port Blair, Dec 09: In the ongoing 18th state school games, the port blair zone dominated the swimming competitions today. In the boys 50 mtrs free style, Surendra Kumar clinched the gold medal, whereas the silver medal went to S.K. Habibul of Maya Bunder zone, and Rajesh Mondal of Rangat zone bagged the bronze medal.
In the 50 mtrs free style swimming competition of girls too, Saaz Lahiri of Port Blair zone secured first position. Naw Ivy of Mayabunder zone stood second and Phoebe of Car Nicobar got the third prize. In the 100 mtrs free style for the boys and in 50 mtrs butterfly for girls, the swimmers of Port Blair zone excelled by the clinching the gold.
In the 10 km Road Race for boys, all the three positions were secured by the Port Blair zone. The Noncowry boy Rufus bagged gold medal, showing his muscle power and technique in the short put. Cereabel of Car Nicobar brought smiles for her team mates when he threw Iron ball to the longest distance in short put event and won gold. In the discuss throw Rohit Ekka of Wimberly gunj showed his talent by achieving the longest distance. Sumati Tirkey of Mayabunder zone was the gold medal winner in the long jump.
Apart from these, the students of 9 zones participated enthusiastically in the Hocky, Kabaddi, Volley ball, Kho-Khoand Basket ball events today. Shri Dharmendra Kumar Director Sports and Shri Abdul Azeem Retired AD(Sports) were the eminent guests today who gave away the prizes.
