Port Blair, Dec 02: The Lieutenant Governor, A&N Islands while presiding over the General Body meeting of Andaman Adim Janjati Vikas Samiti (AAJVS) on 28.04.2014 had directed the Tribal Welfare department and AAJVS to organize a National Level Conference at Port Blair with the purpose to bring inputs from various stakeholders and also to put in the public domain the policy initiatives and welfare activities for the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) of A&N Islands.
Accordingly, a two-day conference is scheduled on 4th and 5th December, 2014 at Megapode Nest. The theme of the conference is “Thinking Futures: The PVTGs of the A&N Islands”. There are five PVTGs viz. the Great Andamanese, the Onges, the Jarawas, the Sentinelese and the Shompens.
The conference is being attended by anthropologists/scholars/experts of national and international repute apart from local tribal people and leaders who will be deliberating the welfare measures for the PVTGs of A&N Islands.
The conference is being held at the Megapode Nest. There will be four session on two days.
