Port Blair, Nov 30: A day-long outing to Carbyn’s Cove brought a smile on the faces of about Forty One inmates on Saturday which was jointly conducted by Inner Wheel Club and Rotary Club to differently abled children and inmates of Old Age Home, Ferrargunj.
Children played in sand by digging, sifting, scooping, building, pouring, and exploring throughout the time, playing in sand is soothing and entertaining for children. Even old aged inmates of old age home were caught running their fingers and toes through sand and enjoying its texture. Sand was compacted and shaped and manipulated into a variety of images and figures according to the imagination of the differently abled child.
They added a little water to the sand, and saw physical qualities of the sand changed immensely and compared with wet and dry sand. The children played to their hearts content with sands, some were curious to see small crabs, some picked up small corals, they splashed water on each other as they entered ankle deep water, they had a feeling of joy when the sands under their feet was carried away by the gentle waves.
Those who could not come down to the beach due to old age problems watched with immense joy when their colleagues were enjoying. All the children and other inmates had a fun filled day. Games like passing the parcel, tailing the elephant and other games which required less physical activity were conducted to keep them in high spirits. Smti. Komal Anand, President Inner wheel club & Smti. Mehwash Jadwet, Secretary of IWC and Dr.Dinesh, President, Rotary Club, Rtn. Rajesh Anand, (Treasurer) was present to monitor and arrange the whole event.
All safety aspects were taken care off during the picnic, after a sumptuous lunch at the picnic spot, they all departed in a specially arranged bus by the club. Dr. R. Dev Das, Director Social Welfare, Shri. James, Programme Officer, Smti. Irene Nicolas(CDPO), Miss. Sulfeena, (AAO) from the department of social welfare, Rotary & Inner wheel members Mr & Mrs. S.C Malhotra, Mrs. Rekha Bhaskar. Mr & Mrs. Mohd Jadwet, Mrs.Charanjit Chawala, Mrs. Anita Puria, Mrs. Satinder Pal Kaur, Rtn. Dhinesh Kumar, Rtn. Anil Goel too joined and mingled with them.
