Port Blair, Nov 16: As the average life span increases, people are becoming increasingly interested in quality of life, including dietary life. Dental implants are considered as one of the most common and popular treatment options for edentulous patients, and there has been remarkable advancement in the techniques and materials in the field. It is known that dental implants have many advantages such as superior masticatory efficiency and adjacent teeth preservation compared to other prosthetics; however, high cost and long treatment period remain the main limitations of dental implant therapy.
The fact that a surgical procedure is required just because of that some are hesitant, though they feel comfortable in chewing and feel confident after the procedure. In some cases, more invasive procedures such as maxillary sinus elevation or bone graft are necessary for implantation. Smti. Santosh Goel, 82 year old female patient a resident of Junglighat successfully underwent five Dental Implants at Dinesh Dental Clinic, Port Blair on 7/9/14.
The first Dental Clinic to do implant on an 82 year old female patient in A & N Islands. Prof. Dr. V. Rangarajan (Prosthodontist & Implantologist) placed the implants while the Implant surgical procedure was done by Dr.Dinesh, Dental Surgeon. The second phase of treatment with component placing was done on 7/11/14 subsequently the crowns was fixed on 14/11/14 by Dr.Dinesh. Patients who spend more money and time for their dental treatment expect satisfactory results and dental services in return, it is important to understand the factors influencing patient satisfaction in order to provide better services in the future.
At the preoperative assessment, signified the greatest effect on quality of life, were dissatisfaction with appearance, food catching under dentures, and negative feelings of self-consciousness. Oral health changes, such as tooth loss, can have a profound effect on a patient’s quality of life many patients find it difficult to come to terms with tooth loss, being less confident about themselves. Two months after restoration of the implants, patients benefited the most after Dental implant therapy included improvement in appearance, improvement in feelings of self-consciousness, and improved fit of dentures, thus benefiting the most from implant.
