Port Blair, Nov 14: Al-Ameen Education Society,Wimberlygunj, S/Andaman was sanctioned grant under the Programme of Condensed Courses of Education for Women during the year 2012-13. The grant was sanctioned to conduct one year course for S.S.L.C. failed candidates. The Condensed Course of Education was initiated by Central Social Welfare Board to cater to the needs of adult girls/women who could not join the main stream of education or were school dropouts. The scheme aims to provide education opportunities to girl/women above the age of 15 years alongwith additional inputs of skill development. The programme instills confidence among adult women through education making them able citizens.
Total no. 25 women candidates were tutored by the Al-Ameen Education Society but 22 candidates appeared for the Secondary School Examination conducted by the said Organisation. Out of the 22 candidates 10 candidates successfully qualified the examination.
The Al-Ameen Education Society on the eve of Children’s Day invited Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson of the A&N State Social Welfare Board, Port Blair as the Chief Guest of their celebrations. Smt. Ratna Kannan gave away the Certificates to the women who qualified the S.S.L.C. Examination under the Condensed Course programme. In her speech, she said that if the women is educated then the entire Society is educated. Education gives a sense of confidence to the ladies and they become good Home Makers and confident employees. It was a moment of great pride to the women who qualified the exam. Smt. Kannan desired that more and more Voluntary Organisations should come forth to conduct the Condensed Course Programme so that more ladies are benefited by the scheme.
