Port Blair, Nov 02: Centre of Indian Trade Unions has demanded immediate steps from the part of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to regularize the services of about 300 workers who are working as Daily rated/ contract basis as Conductors, Drivers and Workshop Staff in the State Transport Services under the A & N Administration for about long 10 years. In a letter dated 17th October, 2014 sent to Shri Anand Prakash, Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Shri Tapan Sen, MP and General Secretary of the CITU, New Delhi, said that these workers and employees were recruited either against advertisements published in the local newspapers or their names were sponsored by local Employment Exchange.
Apart from that, these workers and employees had gone through several tests like trade test, interview and physical test before their recruitment against part of the expansion programme of State Transport Services throughout the islands especially after the Tsunami disaster in 2004, Tapan Sen said. He expressed concern that even after working against perennial types of jobs for long 10 years, their services have not been regularized and they are being deprived of all sorts of benefits equivalent to regular employees. Shri Tapan Sen, MP told the Chief Secretary that the demand for regularization of services of these workers and employees working as Daily Rated/On Contract basis are lawful and legitimate and, therefore, warrants immediate steps in that direction.
