Port Blair, Oct 29: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar today said that a letter regarding setting up of Assembly in Andaman and Nicobar Islands has reached the Administration and Administration is presently preparing a reply for the same.
Targeting the Administration the Member of Parliament today said that Plan and Non-Plan funds are being used by the Bureaucrats as per their wish going against the suggestion of MP and DPC members, resulting in agriculture growth in minus since last 10 years.
He said that he has written a letter to the Prime Minister of India pointing out that decisions taken in IDA are not being implemented. He said that he has also demanded setting up of Assembly for Andaman and against this letter he has received an acknowledgement letter from the Prime Minister.
He said that in the 10th IDA meeting held during January 2003 (under the chairmanship of ex-prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee) a lone National Highway was passed, having a length of 333 KMs but even after 10 years not a single kilometer road has been constructed.
He added that Mr. Vajpayee had ordered for International Airport in 2003, but the same is still in the papers.
The MP further said that the UT Administration is receiving a huge amount of plan & Non-Plan Fund at an average of Rs.80,000/- per head.
“Our per capita student expenditure is Rs.70.000/- but the quality of education is average and below average,” MP said.
He said that following his demands the Administration has decided to regularize jobs of 124 forest Mazdoors in Baratang and Havelock. Mr. Ray said that Rs. 2,25,000 has been sanctioned from MPLAD fund for setting up ICT enabled class room in GMS Mayabunder.
Regarding Mediclaim, he lauded the efforts of Administration and said that the Administration is going to start Mediclaim scheme in Andaman and the scheme will probably be launched on 26 January 2014.
The MP said that regarding Sluice gate it has been decided by the Administration that the work of Sluice gate started by the Zilla Parishad will be completed by Zilla Parishad and the work started by APWD will be completed by APWD.
During the Press Conference the MP also released a book titled “Andaman, Smriti sotta bhabishwat” written by Mr. Ananta Kumar Biswas. The book is about the history of settlement of settlers in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
