Port Blair, Oct. 24: With a view to curb gambling activities during Diwali celebration, Police team of CID unit have been conducting raids at different places for over a week.
On Oct. 23, in a pre-dawn gambling raid, the Police team of CID unit have seized Rs.67,255/- (including Rs.55110/- board money and Rs.12,145 on the personal search of the apprehended gamblers) from a gambling den at Phoenix Bay and arrested 5 persons namely Madan Pal Singh, 54, r/o Phoenix Bay, M. Hanif, 57, r/o Phoenix Bay, Dasrath, 60, r/o Haddo, Peter Barla, 61, r/o Junglighat and Jawahar, 49, r/o Haddo under A&N Gambling Regulation 1951.
In an another pre-dawn raid conducted at a den at South Point on Oct. 22, 5 gamblers namely Shiv Chander, 53, r/o South Point, Irshad, 33, r/o Mazar Pahad, Sandeep, 32, r/o Dollygunj, Ajay Narayan, 39, r/o Mazar Pahad and Bobby Lall, 26, r/o Aberdeen were arrested and recovered a total amount of Rs.46,040/- (including stake money of Rs.40,040/- and personal search money of Rs.6000/-).
In another three different raids conducted on Oct. 22 & 23, 13 persons (5 persons from Burmanallah, 5 from Attam Pahad and 3 persons from Dairy Farm) were arrested under A&N Gambling Regulation 1951 and in all a total amount of Rs.11,320/- recovered as gambling money.
The members of the general public have been requested to inform about any credible information pertaining to gambling, illegal sale or possession of liquor/drugs or any other illegal activity on the following telephone numbers: 233307, 9434288536, 242198, 232586, 9531856155 and 100. The identity of the informer will be kept secretary, a communication from the Office of the Superintendent of Police (CID), A&N Islands said.
