Port Blair, Oct 08: On 08/10/2014 at 04:30 AM an information was received that one fishing dinghy ANB MV SA 271 alongwith six fishermen were under distress due to failure of engine and were drifting towards South West of Rut Land rocky area and sought immediate help for rescuing them. Upon this, Dy.SP(PMF) directed the Master of Police Boat M.V. Trak stationed at Wandoor to sail out immediately for conducting rescue operations. Despite the severe weather condition and turbulent sea, the Police Boat sailed out with staff of P.S Humfrygunj and Marine Police. Later all 06 fishermen were rescued and fishing dinghy was towed back safely to Wandoor jetty and handed over to P.S Humfrygunj for further action.
In an another incident on 05/10/2014, three persons of Dairy Farm area, who had gone for fishing in the sea opposite Hornbill Nest were also safely evacuated to shore of Corbyn’s Cove beach by Police Gemini boat. All the three fishermen were unable to swim or come to shore due to onset of high tide and turbulent sea and were stranded on a piece of rock at a distance from the shore.
The General public and fishermen are cautioned and advised not to venture in sea during rough/cyclonic weather conditions to prevent any untoward incidents.
