Port Blair, Jan 06: It seems that Politics of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has entered into the new age, after A & N Islands BJP president Mr. R Mohan, now the Member of Parliament of A & N Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray has opened a Facebook account to reach to the public directly and get a direct feedback from the voters. Not only this Mr. Ray as also opened a Facebook Group (An open forum) to discuss local issues, which is getting huge response from people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, who are in Facebook.
Although there is a serious doubt on who is actually operating the account but in any case the account is considered as the authentic page of Mr. Ray, operated by his aides.
Not only the Member of Parliament is also in already existing popular Facebook groups of ‘Andaman Sheekha’ and ‘The Light of Andaman’.
In just three days as many as 132 number of Andamani’s have joined the Facebook Group of Mr. Ray.
Very recently the MP had alleged that his comments and press conferences are highly filtered by the Administration’s mouth piece ‘The Daily Telegrams’. Moreover there were also efforts from the side of Administration to counter a few claims of the Member of Parliament. Perhaps this is the reason why the MP has now decided to opt for this Rostrum, from where he can reach to the masses without any kind of restrictions.
Moreover this move will also bring him very close to thousands of local youths, who remain glued to Facebook for hours and hours everyday.
Senior leaders of A & N State BJP unit, like R Mohan, H D Chaterjee, Jijith Rekh are already in Facebook.
One can imagine how this tool will be used by the MP after reading his first post on Tuesday (3rd January 2012) which says “The Andaman Administration has decided to close down the Andaman Trunk Road, the lifeline of the people of North and Middle Andaman. Adding to the misery, there are new amendments in the PAT Regulation 1956. If materialised this will take us way back to the British Regime and the islanders will be treated as culprits. Let’s raise our voice against the Dictatorship prevailing in our beautiful islands.”
It is also expected that soon Mr. Ray would be uploaded crucial documents in his Facebook Account to prove his point on ATR closure. Now, it would be interesting to see that how the A & N Administration will counter these claims of MP, made in Social network site Facebook.
