Port Blair, Sept 05: Just when the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr Kiren Rijiju was at Havelock Island, a Major Fire Broke out at Dive India’s Kitchen and Restaurant. The Fire was reported at 2.30 am that too via VHF from Port Blair. The network at Havelock was down and hence the communication could not be passed to Fire Service unit of Havelock via phone directly.
In no time the Fire Tenders reached the spot under the command of Sub Inspector Devender Singh of Fire Service. Police team from PS Havelock also reached under the leadership of SHO Vikas Singh and SI Sameer. The entire operation was carried out under the overall supervision of Dy.S.P B Saigal.
According to reports, the fire completely gutted the Kitchen and Restaurant of Dive India but Fire Service and Police Jawans were able to save Gold India’s resort, which is situated just next to Dive India.
The fire service and police jawans displayed exceptional professionalism to control the fire from spreading further. 3 LGP cylinders busted during the operation, it is reported.
