Port Blair, Aug 21: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has expressed concern over the non-filling up of vacant posts in various departments under the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. In a resolution adopted in a meeting of the Central Secretariat of the Association held today (17th August, 2014) at Port Blair, the Association noted that there is visible lack of initiative on the part of the authorities to fill up the vacant posts in every department. Even the promotion quota posts are not being filled up timely because of which the eligible feeder cadre employees are denied of their rightful promotion on time. The meeting noted that in APWD alone, nearly 3000 posts of different categories including the Work- charged posts are lying vacant. Similarly, in the Electricity Department, 500 posts of different categories are lying vacant. The Association asked the Administration to look into the matter and take immediate effective measures to ensure that all the vacant posts including the promotion quota posts are filled up urgently.
Through another resolution adopted in the meeting, the Association expressed concern over the uncontrolled price rise of food items in the islands including vegetables, fish, meat, etc. The meeting of the Association noted that the concerned departments have failed to exercise any kind of check on the vegetable, fish and meat vendors who hike the prices of these items at their will and wish. The meeting asked the A & N Administration to take some concrete steps to control the prices of the above items in the islands for the interests of the people.
Shri HL Prasad, Vice President presided over the meeting while Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary and Shri TS Sreekumar, Asst. General Secretary spoke on the occasion.
