Port Blair, Aug 07: A.Raja, the accused of Nicobari girl rape case has been arrested by Car Nicobar Police at Port Blair.
According to reports, before the girl could lodge a complaint at Car Nicobar Police Station, the accused left Car Nicobar for Port Blair in M V Chowra yesterday. Acting swiftly a police team led by SDPO, Car Nicobar, Mr. N Rashid caught the accused at Port Blair and prevented him from running away from A & N Islands.
According to eyewitnesses, the police team first searched MV Kalighat in the morning but got nothing, later at 5.00 pm the team searched MV Chowra and found the accused. The Accused, a van driver by profession and father of an eight year old girl was finally arrested from MV Chowra, after 24 hours long drama. According to reports the accused will be produced to court tomorrow.
A.Raja, the accused had married a girl at Katchal but the girl actually belonged to Perka village of Car Nicobar and hence Raja later settled at Car Nicobar and has been driving a Tata Van since then. The victim is said to be the close relative of A.Raja’s wife.
