Port Blair, Aug 6: The Port Blair Municipal Council distributes treated water, supplied by APWD to the consumers in the Municipal area. The APWD supplies this water to PBMC on cost basis and PBMC distributes it to people at highly concessional rate. However, due to non-payment of water charges and other municipal taxes by various users in time, the outstanding due has gone upto over Rs.28 crores against PBMC to be payable to APWD.
Despite several notices most of the property holders and tenants have not paid their respective property tax, water charge and conservancy fee timely.
Therefore, the PBMC has once again asked all concerned to pay the water charges, property tax, conservancy fee and market rent etc, outstanding against them within 1 month, failing which necessary action will be initiated under the provision of A & N Islands (Municipal) Regulation 1994, including disconnection of water pipeline from premises under Municipal Regulation 103(2). The PBMC is also issuing individual notices, a communication from the Revenue Officer, PBMC said here today.
