Port Blair, Aug 06: As per directions of the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, an enquiry has been ordered to look into the events that lead to the tragic death of Shri Kalidas, Forester at Mayabunder on 29.07.2014 in an operation launched in the forests to trap a departmental rogue elephant that was on rampage for the last few days.
The enquiry shall broadly cover aspects like any delay in starting the operation; constituting of teams/sub-teams taking into account availability of personnel from Police, Wildlife Division and Forest Division; their preparations alongwith the required equipment and who all had accompanied Late Kalidas and under what circumstance he was left alone.
The enquiry is to be conducted by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and the detailed report fixing responsibility for lapses, if any, is to be submitted to the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands by 12th August, 2014.
