Mayabunder, Aug 04: Here is the team, which killed Musth Elephant ‘Sanjeev Prasad’. No doubt the team is very brave to venture into deep forest to tranquilize the Musth Elephant putting their lives at great risk. The team was following specific orders to tranquilize the Elephant and in extreme case to shoot the Elephant down. Sadly the entire operation resulted in death of ‘Sanjeev Prasad’.
The Elephant which needed Sedatives more than Bullets, died a painful death, courtesy Forest Department. One wonders if tomorrow other Bull Elephants go ‘Musth’ what our Forest Department would do.
Though in this operation clear efforts were seen from the side of Administration to tranquilize the Elephant but it was too late. It becomes very difficult to control an Elephant once it goes into ‘Musth’.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha earlier the PCCF, Dr. Shashi Kumar had accepted that it was mistake of Forest Department that there were no Doctors to keep an eye on Elephants but he assured that the posts of Doctors will be filled soon. Infact he said that soon after assuming charge he had initiated this process.
Meanwhile, after killing the animal the team members took photographs in brave postures, which were later circulated in social media. However, the photographs gave great pain to animal lovers, who still believe that ‘Sanjeev Prasad’ should have brought under control in some way.
