Port Blair, July 22: The Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY), Port Blair, a premier ship repair unit of Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) has imparted three weeks Industrial Exposure and practical training to the final year passing out students of Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT), Port Blair.
As an initiative to contribute to the technical human resource pool of the Islands, Industrial Training in a structured form has been imparted for the first time to the students of DBRAIT. The students were exposed to the high end technical facilities of the NSRY. The various processes involved in the refitting of ships such as dry docking and overhaul of various machinery and systems were witnessed by the students.
The exposure and practical training in different trades such as Engineering, Hull, Ship Outfitting and Electrical was conducted with an emphasis on practical aspects involved in undertaking ship repair work. The students visited the unique Floating Docking of the Navy and were explained the nuances involved in docking and undocking of ships.
On the concluding day of training on 18 Jul 14, the trainee students were awarded “Certificate of Training” by Commodore Debesh Lahiri Commodore Superintendent of NSRY, in the presence of DrUtpal Sharma, Principal DBRAIT.
The Principal thanked ANC and NSRY in providing the students this unique opportunity in getting practical exposure to ship repair facilities. Mr Venkatesh CH Principal, ITI Dollygunj, urged Commodore Debesh Lahiri to train ITI students also at NSRY. Same will be undertaken in due course
