Port Blair, July 15: The Port Blair Municipal council in its meeting held on 29.11.2013 adopted a resolution to sanction Rs. 300/- each as incentive to its workers who immediately swung into rescue operation following the devastating cyclone “LEHAR” that passed the Island on 25.11.2013 and caused damage in Port Blair. Soon after the cyclone, a combined operations was put forth by the workers of the council in entire municipal limit to make functional more than 10000 street lights including Sodium Vapour and tube lights. The sanitary workers and workers of the work section who also joined hands with the workers of various other departments to remove small and big uprooted / broken trees to clear the blocked road / street for the free flow of traffic and commuters apart from de-silting blocked drains. As a token of appreciation, an amount of Rs. 300/- each as incentive to 416 workers of the council were sanctioned.
Mr. K. Ganeshan, Chairperson, PBMC appreciated the workers of the council those who did rescue work day and night during and post cyclone. The Chairperson thanked the Councillors who co-ordinated with the employees of the council in rescue operation in their respective ward. The Chairperson, PBMC also thanked the Lt. Governor for extending all sort of assistance and guidance to the Council in carrying out the rescue works.
