Port Blair, July 03: The Department of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration in association with Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) organized a “Method Demonstration programme on Vegetable” scheme at Kadakkachang village in the field of Shri. K.Mustafa on 03/07/14.
Mr. Onit Panyong, IAS Secretary (Agri), Andaman and Nicobar Administration graced the programme and interacted with the farmers and he stressed the advantages of organic vegetable cultivation under RKVY. Discussions were also held regarding the Pending compensation of farmers with reference to “Lahar” cyclone.
Director of Agriculture Dr. G.S.Pandey urged the farmers to avail benefits of Schemes of Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojna and encouraged the farmers for Organic Vegetable Cultivation.
Earlier Mr. R.Y.Singh, Assistant Director (Agri), South Andaman welcome the gathering and briefed the scope and prospects of organic farming & utilise the benefits of organic manure for increasing crop production. Seed treatment with organic pesticide was demonstrated to the farmers and knowledge was imparted regarding techniques of seed selection, land preparation and nursery management. Practical demonstration on seed treatment was done by Smti. Saraswati Sutradhar Agriculture Assistant ,S/Andaman.
The Pradhan Wimberlygunj Gram Panchayat, Smti. Jothi Kindo expressed her happiness and lauded the efforts of the Department for taking up such type of Farm School and various other schemes time to time. The programme had an overwhelming response with the participation of more than 35 farmers and PRI members. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. K.L.Prasad.
