Port Blair, June 17: A large number of people today demonstrated infront of G B Pant Hospital and blocked the main entrance of the hospital demanding compensation for an accident victim of Haddo, who was crushed to death by a minor.
According to report, the accident took place at 4:15 PM yesterday, in which Mr. K.Veera Brahmmem R/o Lilipur, Haddo lost his life.
According to the sources the deceased was working as a private laborer and was crushed to death by a fully loaded truck. The sources told Andaman Sheekha that the truck hit the deceased when it was parked and the driver was out for having tea and a minor boy aged 17 years was fizzling around at the driver seat.
To protest against the negligence of the owner of truck and to fetch a compensation of Rs. 5,00,000 for the family of the deceased, the Labour Union today held a strike infront of G.B Pant Hospital main gate, the strike ended after an hour to facilitate the movement of vehicles to the hospital.
Meanwhile, sources informed that the minor boy was taken in custody and a case was registered and was later released on bail. The deceased left behind his wife and two sons. Sources also informed that the family of the deceased has been paid Rs. 1,50,000 by the owner of the truck as compensation.
