Port Blair, June 16: A delegation led by State President of BJP, Mr. Vishal Jolly met the Lt. Governor to discuss some burning issues concerning the people of these Islands. Delegation consisted of State Vice President Mr. R. Vimod, District President (North Andaman) Smti. Kiran Tigga, State General Secretary BJYM Mr. Saw Tathu and District General Secretary (North Andaman) Mr. K.V.Raj.
These have been persistent demands from the residents of North and Middle Andaman to allow stoppage of all Ship to Kolkata and back at Mayabunder port. Delegation brought this matter to the notice of the Administrator. According to BJP press release, the Lt. Governor immediately directed Director of Shipping Services to do the needful to ensure that the ship to Kolkata and back berth at Mayabuder port twice in a month.
Upgradation of Diglipur Vivekananda Zilla Parishad School was discussed in the meeting. It was brought of the notice of the Lt. Governor that this year this School had secured 100% result in class X. The Lt. Governor reportedly has assured to start class XI in this School from this year onwards.
Some suggestions were put forward by the State BJP President to reconstitute AN State Sports Council involving Sportspersons, Sports Administrators and Public Representatives in a transparent manner after amending the byelaw of AN State Sports Council. According to the press release the Lt. Governor agreed in principal with the suggestions of State BJP President and forwarded the letter to Secretary (Sports) to do the needful in a time bound manner.
Till last year all the students of Government School were given free textbooks. The decision to give free textbooks only to BPL students from this year onwards was objected by the delegation. Demand was made to ensure that all the students of Government School get free textbook until resurvey of BPL families are completed. The Lt. Governor reportedly assured that this matter will be sympathetically considered.
