Port Blair, June 11: The Andaman and Nicobar Command today said that it would be good for National Security if Government of India gives non for setting up a radar station at Narcondum Island off the Andaman coast.
“We came to know about this development through National news. If it happens it will be damn good thing. Good because Narcomdum is very ideal location for Radar and there is nothing (no land) around it,” said a senior officer of ANC, who does not want his name to be quoted.
Earlier in a press conference the former CINCAN had said that India is setting up total 18 Radar Station from North to South of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and four out of these 18 will come up in first phase and rest in later phases.
As it is almost impossible to guard the vast sea around Andaman and Nicobar Islands with only ships and aircrafts, Radars seems to be the perfect answer to India’s security problems around Andaman Sea.
According to sources the Radar at East Island, North of Andaman and Nicobar Chain is almost ready for operation.
