Port Blair, May 31: An Orientation-cum-Coordination Conference & Table Top Exercise organized for all the stakeholder of ANI on 30th May, 2014 in the situation room of Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration, Port Blair for successful conduct of the State Level Communication Exercise “Suraksha Goonj 14” on June 5, 2014 in ANI.
Mr. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Director, Directorate of Disaster Management welcomed the gathering and briefed the overview of Emergency Communication and Early Warning System in A&N Islands. He emphasized upon the areas which requires to be strengthened towards Emergency Communication, Early Warning systems. Institutional Mechanism, Response and Capacity Building to implement disaster management activities in A&N Islands.
Mr. Ajayan. TKS., Asst. Director (Ops.). Directorate of Disaster Management with a power point presentation elaborated the institutional mechanism, vulnerability profile of A&N Islands, present status of communication system that functioning in A&N Islands and process of dissemination of information with regard to disastrous situation from State Emergency Operation Centres to grassroots level. He further emphasized upon the importance of conducting State Level Communication Exercise “Suraksha Goonj 14” scheduled on June 5, 2014 in ANI. The stakeholder of the department also participated in the questionnaire session with related to COMM Test.
All the stakeholders/line departments i.e. District Administration, Police ANC, NDRF, APWD, NIOT, Industries, PBMC, Shipping, PMB, Electricity, Transport, Fire, Coast Guard, IP&T, IMD, Forests and BSNL attended the Table Top Exercise and also agreed to participate and coordinate with State Emergency Operation Centre and Emergency Operation Centres during conduct of State Level Communication Exercise “Suraksha Goonj 14” on June 5, 2014.
